PAW PAW, Mich. (WOOD) — A Paw Paw man who set out to ride his bike on all of Route 66 to honor his late son has finished the ride.

Mark Linder started his journey from Chicago last month. On Wednesday, he made it all the way to the other end of Route 66 in Santa Monica, California.

The ride took 33 days.

Due to extreme heat and some equipment issues, Linder didn’t ride his bike all 2,500 miles. Instead, he traveled in his family camper for part of the route. But he did log nearly 1,700 miles on two wheels.

He did it all to raise money for pediatric cancer research after his son Kevin died in 2013 at just 6 years old.

Linder estimates he raised about $10,000 along the way.
