Death of boy at pool party considered accidental

HOWARD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — The drowning of an 11-year-old boy in a Howard Township pool is thought to be accidental, the Cass County Sheriff's Office says.

Deputies did not release the boy's name Sunday.

Authorities say the 11-year-old and his friends were attending a birthday pool party Saturday when someone noticed he was laying at the bottom of the pool around 9 p.m. The boy was brought back to the surface by his friends. Parents started CPR and called 911.

The boy was taken to Lakeland Hospital in Niles, where he later died.

The case remains under investigation, but authorities believe it was an accident.
