BERTRAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Four people were hospitalized, including two with critical injuries, after a car and a motorcycle collided southeast of Buchanan Monday.

The crash happened around 3:30 p.m. at the exit from US-31 to US-12 in Bertrand Township. The Berrien County Sheriff’s Office says a car exiting northbound US-31 pulled into the path of an eastbound motorcycle, which had the right of way, leading to the crash.

The driver of the motorcycle, 18-year-old Dakota Cowan of Galien, and his passenger, 17-year-old Searra Inman of Niles, were seriously injured. They were taken to a South Bend-area hospital, where they were later listed in critical condition.

The driver of the car, 23-year-old Brian Elleott of South Bend, Ind., and two of his passengers, a 58-year-old woman and a 10-year-old boy, sustained minor injuries and were treated at the scene. Two more of Elleott’s passengers, 35-year-old Aaron Elleott and 7-year-old Colin Elleott, were hospitalized. Their conditions were not listed in an evening release from the sheriff’s department.
