Consumers Energy crews restored power to 5,593 customers after services went out around 11:20 a.m. Tuesday, according to Consumers Energy.

Earlier, 5,593 customers were without power but the majority of people had services restored around 1 p.m. Tuesday. The remaining customers had power back on shortly after 2 p.m., according to Consumers Energy spokesman Roger Morgenstern.

Morgenstern said an equipment failure just outside a substation in Cedar Springs caused the outage. Crews are still investigating why the failure occurred.
