Power outage in Grand Rapids after tree falls


GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Nearly 2,000 Consumers Energy customers in Grand Rapids lost power Sunday afternoon after a tree fell on an electrical line.

The tree came down around 1:45 p.m. on Madison Avenue SE near Brown Street, breaking several utility poles, according to Consumers. The damage was described as “significant.”

Crews are working to fix the damage. There were some road closures in the area as repairs were underway.

As of 5 p.m., about 1,000 customers remained affected, according to Consumers’ interactive power outage map. As of 6:15 p.m., fewer than 70 customers were without power. Service was expected to be restored for everyone by 5:30 a.m. Monday.
