PORT SHELDON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A man pulled from Lake Michigan Wednesday evening has died.

The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office said 20-year-old Brandon Schmidt of Allendale was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital.

Crews were called to Windsnest Park in Port Sheldon Township around 8:20 p.m. to conduct a water rescue.

Authorities say the man was swimming about 20 feet from shore when he went under the water. He had last been spotted about three minutes before the call to 911.
