GEORGETOWN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A small oil spill into a well near Jenison is under control, officials say.
The spill happened Tuesday on private property in the area of 10th Avenue and Taylor Street in Georgetown Township. That’s near Riverview Airport.
Ottawa County emergency management officials say about 10 barrels spilled from a pipe leading to an oil well. Some made it into a nearby bayou.
The well was shut down and an absorbent boom was placed around the spill to keep the oil from spreading. The property owner, an environmental contractor and local and state agencies are working on cleanup.
Officials say there is no public health risk.
