HOLLAND, Mich. (WOOD) — Holland police say they’ve identified a suspect in a weekend sexual assault near Hope College’s campus.
It happened around 2 a.m. Saturday when two 21-year-old students were walking on the sidewalk of 14th Street near College Avenue.
Authorities say the victim was approached from behind by a man who grabbed her and forcibly touched her.
The victims friend, who was walking a short distance ahead of her, heard the assault, turned around, and yelled at the man.
Police say the suspect let go of the victim and both women ran from the scene.
Officers obtained surveillance footage of a possible suspect from a nearby business, which led to numerous tips, according to Capt. Keith Mulder.
He told 24 Hour News 8 Wednesday that detectives were able to confirm the man’s identity.
Police say the incident is not connected to the reported abduction attempt of a Hope College student on another stretch of 14th Street on Oct. 13.
Both cases are under investigation.
