ZEELAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A plane that had been circling the Ottawa Executive Airport after its front landing gear malfunctioned landed safely on the ground Sunday afternoon.
The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office said they received a report just before 1 p.m. of a 1990 Glass Air single-propellor plane, piloted by a 56-year-old Zeeland man, was circling the airport in an attempt to make an emergency landing because the front landing gear was not working.
Authorities said the pilot managed to keep the nose of the plane up for as long as he could before the front end touched down, staying on its course and coming to a stop a short distance later.
The pilot was not hurt.
This incident remains under investigation by the sheriff’s office and the Federal Aviation Administration.
