GEORGETOWN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — After many delays, Ottawa County Road Commission officials said work would resume Monday on the Cottonwood Drive reconstruction project in Jenison.

Officials say crews will pave the final layer of asphalt on the road and complete restoration work between Baldwin Street and Bauer Road.

The commission says the Cottonwood Drive would be closed to through traffic during construction, which is tentatively expected to last through mid-May, depending on the weather.

In the meantime, the commission is asking drivers to follow the posted detour that includes Baldwin Street, 20th Avenue and Bauer Road.

The road project was initially scheduled to be finished last October but has faced numerous obstacles.

Work on the project was hindered last fall after a labor dispute between the Michigan Transportation and Infrastructure Association and Operating Engineer’s Local 324 caused delays, according to the road commission.

Once the dispute was resolved, crews attempted to finish the project in December but were unable to complete the work due to the winter weather.

The delays have caused local traffic to be limited to one lane in each direction along with a center turn lane. Other drivers have been detoured to different streets.

Visit the Ottawa County Road Commission’s website for the latest information about closures and detours.
