HUDSONVILLE, Mich. (WOOD) — A game in Hudsonville Friday night will continue the mission to get automated external defibrillators in every school in West Michigan.
The Eagles will host a “Never Forgotten” game with the Wes Leonard Heart Team in honor of Wes Leonard, who died at 16 years old after making the game-winning shot for Fennville years ago.
Jen Lanphear teaches a sports marketing class at Hudsonville High School, but was a teacher in Fennville for 13 years and knew Leonard personally. He was her inspiration for assigning her class to this project, creating the game and the fundraising around it.
“I was at the game where (Leonard) passed away. I know what went into that day and what we have found out about the lack of an AED and how important they are. It’s just a nice way to keep his legacy alive and keep the work that the Heart Team does going in my own little way,” she explained.
The boys team will kick off the games at 6 p.m. followed by the girls team around 7:30 p.m. The sports marketing students created banners, will sell t-shirts and have raffles as well, all to raise money for the Heart Team.
