OLIVE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A man who allegedly shot and killed his wife three weeks ago was booked into the Ottawa County Jail Tuesday.

Michael McNeal, 55, was arraigned Wednesday on open murder and felony firearm charges.

Authorities say McNeal shot himself in the face after killing his wife Sherrilee McNeal, 53. He had been under guard in the hospital since the July 24 incident.

The shooting happened around 3:45 a.m. in a horse trailer in front of the couple’s home on Barry Street near 152nd Avenue in Port Sheldon Township. Their 17-year-old son, who was gaming online at the time, heard the shots and went outside, where he discovered what had happened. He told his gaming friends to call 911.

Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Mark Bennett told 24 Hour News 8 over the phone Tuesday that evidence at the scene made it clear that McNeal shot his wife and then himself.
