HOLLAND, Mich. (WOOD) — Some drivers who pulled up to the Quality Car Wash in Holland around lunch time on Wednsday were surprised to find police ready at the pump.

Members of the Holland Police Department teamed up with Quality Car Wash to give away free gas, days before Christmas. Officers filled dozens of customers’ tanks with $20 in gas, cleaned their windshields and even filled a flat tire.

“I see an officer smiling at a person who is unexpecting, unassuming, and they’re not sure what to expect. And then they (the drivers) smile, try to put their best foot forward, and it turns out everything is going to be OK. We’re (the police are) just here to give you a little something for Christmas, and it’s a beautiful thing,” explained Benji Garza of Quality Car Wash.

Many drivers pledged to pay it forward in the community.

“It may be little in terms of being 20 bucks or 15 bucks, but the act itself is a big thing,” said Garza, calling the acts of kindness “overwhelmingly appreciated.”

Last week, Holland police served up free drinks to unsuspecting patrons at a Biggby Coffee.
