FERRYSBURG, Mich. (WOOD) — The Ferrysburg City Council could decide Monday evening whether to reopen Smith’s Bridge with a weight restriction.
Smith’s Bridge has been closed for more than six months over structural concerns, forcing drivers to use a three-mile detour.
After conducting some testing, Grand Rapids-based Fleis & VandenBrink Engineering said (PDF) the bridge could be reopened to traffic with load restrictions and that the bridge can be rehabbed.
Ferrysburg city officials previously said the bridge needed to be replaced at a cost of some $13 million.
The City Council meeting is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. at Ferrysburg City Hall.
