GEORGETOWN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A 16-year-old boy died Thursday after he was found face-down in a backyard pool.
The teen was discovered around 4:30 p.m. in the 4300 block of Port Sheldon Street, between 36th and 48th avenues in Georgetown Township. Someone found the teen not breathing and called authorities.
Georgetown Township firefighters pulled the boy from the above-ground pool and began CPR and “advanced life support,” the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office said. He was taken to Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital, where he later died.
Investigators say the teen, whose name has not been released, had special needs and wandered into the pool.
The sheriff’s office says relatives of the teen were home at the time of his near drowning. The agency’s investigation is ongoing.
