Authorities investigating Ottawa Co. inmate death

WEST OLIVE, Mich. (WOOD) – Ottawa County authorities are investigating the death of an inmate at the Ottawa County Jail.

William VanEyck, 33, was being lodged at the jail awaiting sentencing. The Holland man was found unresponsive in the jail on March 3 and taken to Spectrum Hospital in Grand Rapids, where he died Monday.

Authorities are investigating the incident. Details on the cause of death or circumstances leading up to it weren’t immediately available.

Court documents show VanEyck had pleaded no contest to assaulting, resisting or obstructing a police officer; third-degree fleeing a police officer; and malicious destruction of property between $1,000 but less than $20,000. He was scheduled to be sentenced March 26.
