ALLENDALE, Mich. (WOOD) – A daycare center in Allendale will not reopen after one of its employees was charged with assault.
The license of the Rainbow Child Care Center, which is located on Edgewater Drive, was temporarily suspended on March 2 by the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs. That suspension followed an investigation into a separate incident — but during the investigation authorities became aware of allegations that an employee at the center assaulted three children under the age of 1.
The employee, Keyonia Sylvia Ratfliff, was arraigned on three misdemeanor assault charges in May.
Rainbow Child Care sent a letter to parents on Monday saying the re-opening process at the Allendale location had taken longer than expected, and as a result, they decided not pursue re-opening the center.
Rainbow Child Care Center’s operations manager said the day care was unable to come to a resolution with state agencies.
