ALLENDALE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Two people were injured after a shooting in a parking lot of the Copper Beech Townhomes near Grand Valley State University’s Allendale campus.

The shooting happened around 11:45 p.m. Tuesday at the apartment complex located near the intersection of Pierce Street and 48th Avenue, according to an alert sent out by the university. The alert stated there “was an apparent disagreement during a party and two people were shot.”

Deputies on scene told 24 Hour News 8 that one victim was taken to the hospital by ambulance. The other was treated at the scene. Both victims, who are men, have non-life-threatening injuries from single gunshot wounds, according to officers on scene.

Melissa Mattson, a junior at GVSU, said she “heard about five gunshots outside (and) a bunch of yelling and screaming.”

Mattson and her roommates said parties near where the shooting took place have been happening each night over the past several days. She said there were fights in the past.

Deputies are searching for a suspect who they describe as a man in his 20s. Deputies say he was last seen with a group of people who drove away on Pierce Street.

The Grand Valley State University Police Department is helping with the investigation.
