HOLLAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Two people were seriously injured in a crash east of Holland Wednesday.
It happened around 2:15 p.m. on Adams Street at I-196 in Holland Township.
The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office says Chanthavilay Herrera was driving west and was trying to turn left to get onto the westbound highway. She told deputies that the traffic light turned yellow and she thought oncoming traffic would stop, so she made the turn.
Eastbound driver Rachel Kroeze told authorities her traffic light was green, which a witness confirmed, so she kept going.
Herrera’s minivan turned in front of Kroeze’s SUV, causing the crash.
Herrera, 35, of Fennville, and Kroeze, 22, of Holland, were both hospitalized in serious condition.
Authorities say both were wearing their seat belts.
