2 hospitalized after crashes near I-96 in Marne

WRIGHT TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) —  A woman is in critical condition Tuesday after getting in two crashes in Ottawa County.

The first crash happened around 3 p.m. Tuesday  on eastbound I-96 near the 16th Avenue exit for Marne, in Wright Township.

A woman was going west on Ironwood Avenue when she sideswiped another vehicle waiting to turn onto 8th Avenue. The woman then turned onto eastbound I-96 while driving west.

After the first crash, the woman continued going west on I-96, causing a head-on collision with an eastbound vehicle.

Neighbors told 24 Hour News 8 they heard the crash several streets away. One vehicle was still resting on its roof on the highway, and a damaged minivan sat in the middle of the highway.

The woman who got into two crashes is listed in critical condition at an area hospital.

The driver of the vehicle in the second crash was also taken to an area hospital, where she is listed in stable condition. Two other passengers in the vehicle also had minor injuries.

During the clean-up of the two crashes, a third crash happened in the westbound lanes of the highway. Information on what caused it or any injuries suffered wasn’t immediately available.
