Oceana Co. authorities: Girl, 10, drowns in Lake Michigan

PENTWATER, Mich. (WOOD) — A 10-year-old Lansing girl died Monday after falling into Lake Michigan in Pentwater, authorities in Oceana County say.

The girl, Hannah Harris, was paddle boarding less than a mile north of Charles Mears State Park when she fell into the water around 3:45 p.m. and went missing, according to the Oceana County’s Sheriff’s Office.

Hannah was pulled from the water around 4:20 p.m. Attempts to revive her were not successful.

She was not wearing a life jacket, the sheriff’s office said.

First responders from Pentwater agencies, Oceana County, Michigan State Police, the state Department of Natural Resources responded to the scene.
