Nestle said the employee was working on repairs on a line when it happened. The Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration said its preliminary investigation found the mechanic was hit by and became caught up in a conveyor system when it started moving.

Operations at the plant on State Street between Stone Road and Weaver Avenue were halted following the death.

The company said it was investigating and cooperating with authorities. Police are investigating along with the Newaygo County Medical Examiner’s Office and MIOSHA, the Fremont Police Department said in a release.
