EVERETT TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A car chase involving the Newaygo County undersheriff ended with the suspect dying in a crash east of White Cloud, authorities say.
The sheriff’s office says that it stemmed from a shots fired call in Wilcox Township, north of White Cloud.
Newaygo County Undersheriff Chad Palmiter heard the call and spotted a Dodge Charger matching the description of one involved in the shooting headed east on E. Baseline Road. He tried to pulled it over, the sheriff’s office said, but the driver didn’t stop. Palmiter gave chase.
Eventually, the suspect vehicle left the road on E. Baseline near S. Oak Avenue and hit a tree.
The suspect died at the scene. That person’s name wasn’t immediately released.
Michigan State Police has taken over the investigation of the case.
Both directions of E. Baseline near S. Oak in Everett Township were shut down while emergency responders were on the scene. The road reopened around 5:30 p.m.
