MUSKEGON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — The body of a missing Grand Haven man was discovered Tuesday in the north branch of the Muskegon River.
Jeff Scarbrough’s body was found in his SUV near the Creston Road Public Boat Launch south of Giles Road in Muskegon Township.
Scarbrough, 29, was last seen Saturday, when he went golfing about three miles north of the boat launch. He was then supposed to go pick up his son and was reported missing when he didn’t show up.
The Grand Haven Department of Public Safety, the agency investigating the report, said it got a tip through Silent Observer Tuesday morning that brought investigators to the river. They then found surveillance video from a nearby home showing the SUV headed toward the boat launch but not returning. Police also say the last ping from Scarbrough’s cellphone was also in the area.
Police don’t yet know why Scarbrough was on Creston Road. There were no obvious signs of a struggle and they don’t have any evidence that the death is suspicious, but the investigation continues. An autopsy will be conducted.
While searching for Scarbrough Monday, friends said he was well-liked and a committed father.
