Man shot, killed near Muskegon Heights PD

Muskegon County

MUSKEGON HEIGHTS, Mich. (WOOD) — A man was shot and killed less than a block away from the Muskegon Heights Police Department early Sunday.

The shooting happened at around 2 a.m. near Center and Baker streets. The victim was shot multiple times in the chest area, Muskegon Heights Police Chief Joseph Thomas told 24 Hour News 8.

Thomas said officers working about half a block away at police headquarters heard the shots and responded immediately.

“We got there so quick, the police department is the complainant,” Thomas said. “We called it in!”

The chief would not confirm information about the victim’s identity and said little about what precipitated the shooting.

Thomas said officers immediately arrested two suspects and have located the apparent murder weapon. He said a third suspect is still on the run.

“This is not random,” he said of the shooting. “These people knew each other.”

Investigators are asking for anyone with information about what happened to contact police at 231.733.8900.
