GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Heads up, West Michigan drivers: Michigan State Police are reminding you to stop using the left lane on the highway for general travel.

The MSP Sixth District Headquarters says it has received a number of complaints recently. The agency said the left lane is reserved for drivers who are actively passing.

Over the next two months, troopers from the Lakeview and Rockford posts will be cracking down on so-called “southpaw drivers.”

MSP says the initiative is aimed at education. Drivers who are pulled over should expect, at the very least, a lesson on the law and how driving in the left lane can disrupt traffic flow.>>Online: Michigan law on use of the left lane on the highway
