ALGANSEE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Three children died after a pickup truck crashed into a horse-drawn carriage in Branch County Friday.

Michigan State Police said a pick up truck was headed southbound on Kelly Road south of Lester Road when the driver rear ended an Amish horse-drawn carriage.

Two adults and five children were thrown from the carriage. Two of the children, ages 6 and 2, died at the scene. A 4-year-old child died later at the hospital.

One other child, a 3-year-old, is still facing life-threatening injuries. A woman also suffered serious injuries.

Authorities said the injured passengers were taken to Parkview Hospital in Ft. Wayne, Indiana, and Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo.

The names of the people in the carriage have not been released.

The Associated Press reports the driver of the pickup truck was jailed. Citing the Detroit Free Press, the AP said 21-year-old Tyler Frye of Angola, Indiana, faces multiple charges including driving while intoxicated causing death.
