EAST LANSING, Mich. (WOOD) — Investigators are looking for potential victims of a Team USA physician with Michigan ties who is accused of sexual abuse.

Dr. Larry Nassar is a former associate professor of Michigan State University’s College of Osteopathic Medicine and served as the physician for the USA Gymnastics’ team for four Olympic Games.

Investigators are not releasing details of the allegations, only saying the case is “complex.” However, police tell NBC News they received two dozen complaints from former patients last month.

Our Lansing sister station WLNS reports two former gymnasts, including an Olympic medalist, sued Nassar and USA Gymnastics last month, alleging that the doctor molested them during treatments in the 1990s and early 2000s. NBC News says the Olympic medalist accused Nassar of repeatedly molesting her under the guise of invasive exams.

NBC reports Nassar was fired from his sports medicine practice at MSU last month.

At that time the university said that there had been “additional information received that raised serious concerns about Nassar’s compliance with certain employment requirements.”

According to the university, MSU authorities investigated a complaint of misconduct against Nassar in 2014 involving a female graduate; however, no charges were filed.

Michigan State University Police Chief Jim Dunlap recently forwarded the case to the attorney general’s office because he felt they would be best positioned to handle the investigation, which may involve multiple jurisdictions across Michigan and outside of the state.

Nassar has denied any wrongdoing.

He also served as a team physician for Holt High School gymnastics and Twistars Gymnastics Club.

Anyone who may be a victim or who has information regarding this case is asked to contact the Michigan State University Police Department’s toll-free tip line at 844.99.MSUPD.
