EAST LANSING, Mich. (WOOD/WLNS) — Some celebrations after the Spartans’ Saturday win over the Wolverines turned destructive.
An SUV was flipped at Cedar Village Apartments in East Lansing. Reporters from the Lansing State Journal and State News student newspaper also posted images online of burning couches around the city, including a fire at Cedar Village.
WLNS, WOOD TV8’s sister station in Lansing, confirmed with the East Lansing Police Department just after the game that it received “many, many calls” that had it “tied up” in responding to calls of vandalism.
The Lansing State Journal reported that arrests were made, though police didn’t immediately say how many or precisely what charges they faced.
There were no reports of injuries.
Cedar Village has been the site of fires and flipped cars in previous years as MSU fans got out of control following games. In 2019, a fracas started at the apartment complex and then moved elsewhere: street signs and a police vehicle were damaged by the unruly crowd. Nearly two dozen people were arrested.
