CHESANING, Mich. (WOOD) — One person has died after a small plane crashed in Saginaw County Saturday, area news outlets report.

Flint NBC affiliate WEYI reports the crash happened around 10:30 a.m. Saturday. The single-engine aircraft crashed at Showboat Park on Mason Street near South Front Street in Chesaning.

Saginaw County Sheriff William Federspiel says the plane crashed into a building at the park.

WEYI reports the man killed in the crash was 83-year-old William Burns, who is a former flight instructor in the area.

Witnesses told WEYI crews on scene they heard the engine cut out and the plane came falling down.

The plane was registered to a flying club out of Owosso.

It could take days before the crash is investigated by the Federal Aviation Administration due to the partial government shutdown.
