GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — The recent span of bitter winter weather is making it difficult for letter carriers to make deliveries.

The U.S. Postal Service said Monday that deliveries may not be possible due impassible roads or inaccessible mailboxes for zip codes beginning with 486 through 491 and 493 through 499.

Residents are asked to make sure the path to their mailboxes are cleared of snow and ice to help letter carriers make deliveries.

“Snow and ice make delivery dangerous and slow. We appreciate our customers continuing to maintain a clear path to the mail box – including steps, porches, walkways and street approach. This helps our letter carriers maintain consistent delivery service not only now but throughout the winter season,” said Krista Finazzo, the USPS Greater Michigan District Manager.

Customers can call 1.800.275.8777 or visit the Postal Service’s website for more information.
