Newaygo Co. outage blamed on downed line

NEWAYGO, Mich. (WOOD) — More than 4,600 customers in the Newaygo and Fremont areas lost power Tuesday evening.

A Consumers Energy spokesperson told 24 Hour News 8 the outage was caused by a downed line near a substation.

Consumers’ interactive outage map showed 4,630 customers without power. That’s more than 25 percent of the utility’s customers in Newaygo County.

The outage started around 5 p.m. Serviced was restored before 10 p.m.
