HAGAR TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A suspect was shot and killed and an officer shot and injured in the Coloma area Monday, according to Michigan State Police.

The Coloma Township officer suffered a gunshot wound that was not considered life-threatening, troopers said.

The shooting happened around 12:30 p.m. on the 4300 block of Bundy Road near Thar Road in Hagar Township, west of Coloma. Two Coloma Township officers and one Berrien County deputy were responding to a domestic incident, according to MSP.

MSP said the suspect and officers fired shots. It was not clear how many shots were fired or who shot first.

The suspect killed was a 40-year-old man, according to MSP. His name was not released Monday.

An autopsy has been scheduled for Tuesday, according to MSP.

MSP, which did not have troopers on scene when shots were fired, has been tapped to investigate officers’ use of force, which is standard procedure.
