AMBER TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A man died Saturday evening after he was hit by three vehicles while trying to cross the road near Ludington.

The crashes happened around 7:30 p.m. Saturday on US-10 east of Brye Road, near an Applebee’s, in Amber Township.

The Mason County Sheriff’s Office said Jordan James was walking south and made it halfway across the road before he was hit by an eastbound pickup truck. He was then hit again by another pickup truck and a third time by a car.

All three drivers — a 45-year-old Scottville man, a 46-year-old Jackson man and a 25-year-old Scottville woman — cooperated with investigators. The sheriff’s office said neither drugs nor alcohol appear to have been factors.

Authorities say James, of Pentwater, was not in a crosswalk and that he was wearing dark-colored clothing. One witness said James was on his cellphone.

Sunday would have been James’ 21st birthday.
