MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. (WOOD) — Central Michigan University says it’s launched an internal investigation into the conduct of its gymnastics head coach.
Jerry Reighard is on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation, according to CMU.
The university announced the move Wednesday afternoon on its website, but did not disclose the allegations against Reighard.
Reighard took over the gymnastics program in 1984 and led the Chippewas to their first Mid-American Conference Championship title. He’s also been named the MAC Coach of the Year nine times, according to CMU’s website. The university says Reighard’s daughter, Kara, was the first of five CMU gymnasts to earn the MAC Gymnast of the Year Award under his leadership. CMU says it has won more MAC individual titles in vault, uneven bars, balance beam and floor exercise than any other program.
CMU says associate head coach Christine MacDonald will lead the program in Reighard’s absence.
