MUSKEGON, Mich. (WOOD) – A community tribute is planned for a Muskegon woman found murdered on the campus of Grand Rapids Community College.
Police found the body of 34-year-old Jeanne Lyn Huntoon near the Bostwick Avenue parking ramp around 2:45 a.m. on April 30, after a witness reported seeing a man dragging what appeared to be a body in the area.
Sgt. Terry Dixon with the Grand Rapids Police Department said Huntoon had been assaulted and stabbed to death before her body was dragged a short distance. Investigators believe she was randomly targeted.
Pat’s Roadhouse will host a celebration of life event for Huntoon Saturday, according to her obituary online. The May 7 memorial will run from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. on the patio of the restaurant, located at 157 South Getting in Muskegon.
A GoFundMe page created by Huntoon’s mother to help cover her funeral expenses has raised more than $9,000.
“On behalf of myself and my family, I just want to thank everybody for their donations and the kind words and the prayers and positive thoughts. I can’t express how grateful I am and how touched I am. It’s giving me the strength I need to continue doing what needs to be done for my daughter,” Debbie Huntoon posted on the page.
The man police say confessed to Huntoon’s murder, 19-year-old Marcus Bivins, is expected back in court on May 24.
