GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — The man who shot and wounded another man outside a Grand Rapids gas station late last year has taken a plea agreement.
Jose Quintino was scheduled to stand trial starting Tuesday, but instead pleaded guilty to assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder and being a second-offense habitual offender.
Under the terms of the plea deal, five other charges were dropped: assault with intent to commit murder, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a firearm by a felon, felony firearm and being a third-offense habitual offender.
The shooting happened Dec. 5, 2015 outside the Marathon gas station on Franklin Street SW near US-131. Police said Quintino shot the 24-year-old victim after getting into an altercation with him. The victim was seriously hurt, but survived.
Quintino fled, but turned himself in a few days later.
He is scheduled to be sentenced Dec. 15.
