GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — About a year after he shot and wounded a man outside a Grand Rapids gas station, Jose Quintino is headed to a state prison.

Thursday, Quintino was sentenced to between three years, 11 months and 15 years in prison. He received credit for a year and eight days served.

The shooting happened Dec. 5, 2015 outside the Marathon gas station on Franklin Street SW near US-131. Police said Quintino shot the 24-year-old victim after getting into an altercation with him. The victim was seriously hurt, but survived.

Quintino fled, but turned himself in a few days later.

Under the terms of a plea agreement, Quintino last month pleaded guilty to assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder and being a second-offense habitual offender. Five other charges, including attempted murder, were dropped.
