KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — A man arrested for a 2014 homicide has taken a plea deal.
Friday in Kalamazoo County Circuit Court, Timothy Salo pleaded guilty to second-degree homicide and being a habitual offender.
In exchange, charges of being a felon in possession of a firearm, a felony firearms charge and an open murder charge were dismissed.
Salo, 29, was arrested in Lansing in June 2015 for the murder of Jason VanOstran.
VanOstran, 29, was found dead in a mobile home in Kalamazoo Township in April 2014. Family members previously told 24 Hour News 8 he had been shot in the head.
Salo and VanOstran were once brothers-in-law, but family members said Salo and VanOstran’s sister had separated.
