JAMESTOWN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A Byron Center man was killed in a head-on crash in Jamestown Township Wednesday morning.
The two-vehicle crash happened around 8 a.m. on Byron Road east of 48th Avenue in Jamestown Township, near Zeeland, according to a news release from the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department
Authorities say a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by 21-year-old Matthew Lubbers of Grandville, drifted across the centerline into the westbound lane and struck a 2003 Chrysler Town & Country. The driver of the Chrysler Town & Country, 37-year-old Jason Alexander of Byron Center, tried to brake before being hit, according to police.
Alexander was pronounced dead on the scene. Lubbers received non-life-threatening injuries.
Deputies say alcohol doesn’t appear to be a factor, but Lubbers indicated he may have fallen asleep.
The crash remains under investigation.
