HOLLAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A 50-year-old man has died a day after being injured while working at Perrigo. Authorities say he fell more than 22 feet down an elevator shaft.

The incident happened just after 8 a.m. Thursday at the Perrigo facility on Reflections Drive in Holland Township.

The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office says Gerrit Blok of Ada was using a ladder and had just completed work on the second floor elevator shaft when he removed his harness and fell down the shaft.

Blok suffered a head injury and possible broken bones. He was taken to Holland Hospital and then flown to Spectrum-Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids in critical condition.

Friday, Spectrum-Butterworth Hospital confirmed that Blok died from his injuries.

Authorities say he is a 30-year employee with Dan Vos Construction Company and was doing contract work for Perrigo.
