SPRING LAKE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A driver and passenger were seriously injured after their car became airborne and struck multiple trees after drifting into a ditch, says the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office.

It happened just after midnight on Saturday. A Jeep Grand Cherokee was driving south on 148th Avenue near Kelly Street when it left off the right hand side of the road.

The Jeep continued driving in the ditch until it struck a raised driveway, where it became airborne and hit two trees. Both people in the car, a 23-year-old male from Muskegon and a 24-year-old from Muskegon, were pinned in the vehicle after the crash.

The Spring Lake Township Fire Department was able to get the driver and passenger out alive but with serious injuries.

The injured passengers were taken to a Muskegon area hospital by NOCH EMS. The crash remains under investigation by the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office.
