Theresa Lockhart case featured on ID show

Kalamazoo and Battle Creek

PORTAGE, Mich. (WOOD) — The case of a teacher from Portage who was murdered by her husband was the focus of a Tuesday night program on the Investigation Discovery channel.

“Hometown Homicide” delved into the investigation of Theresa Lockhart’s 2017 disappearance.

After Theresa Lockhart went missing, suspicion fell on her husband Christopher Lockhart — but despite searching his house twice, police couldn’t find enough to charge him with her murder. He told 24 Hour News 8 in a phone interview he had nothing to do with her disappearance.

Then, more than five months after she vanished, Christopher Lockhart killed himself in their Portage home. In a suicide note, he confessed to killing his wife and a provided hand-drawn map to where he left her body in the Allegan State Game Area.

By the time authorities found Theresa Lockhart’s body, her remains were mostly skeletal, but an autopsy was able to determine she was likely choked to death.

The “Hometown Homicide” episode should be available online after it airs.
