KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — Two people were arrested after authorities found a stolen gun, checks and drugs during a traffic stop in Kalamazoo Tuesday.
The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety said officers pulled the vehicle over for a civil infraction violation around 12:30 a.m. near the intersection of Jackson and Linton streets in the city’s Edison neighborhood.
During the traffic stop, officers found a loaded handgun on the ground just outside the passenger door. It was determined the firearm was stolen out of Kalamazoo County.
When officers searched the vehicle, they found what is believed to be methamphetamine and cocaine.
The front seat passenger, a 25-year-old Kalamazoo man, was arrested for felon in possession of a firearm, receiving and concealing stolen property, felony firearm and possession of methamphetamine.
The backseat passenger, a 25-year-old Kalamazoo woman, was arrested on two outstanding warrants and possession of cocaine. When searching the woman, officers found several stolen personal checks, IDs, social security cards and bank cards.
The case remains under investigation.
