PORTAGE, Mich. (WOOD) — Ramona Park Beach in Portage has reopened after shutting down due to elevated levels of E. coli bacteria.
The beach was closed Tuesday after a review of weekly water tests showed increased levels of the bacteria. On Wednesday, the Department of Environmental Health advised the City of Portage that the water was safe for swimmers.
Bacteria counts can differ based on land use and development, weather, wind direction, air and water temperatures, storm water runoff, wildlife population and the number of swimmers.
Beach visitors who feel ill are encourage to contact their doctor.
