PORTAGE, Mich. (WOOD) — Portage police are investigating after three masked robbers smashed glass display cases and stole diamonds from a jewelry store.

It happened around 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the Helzberg Diamonds in Southland Mall on S. Westnedge Avenue.

Police say the robbers, who were wearing masks and dark sunglasses, told the store employees to get on the ground. They didn’t show any weapons or imply they were armed.

It wasn’t immediately clear how many diamonds they made off with.

A witness saw them get into a silver Toyota Sienna minivan that was parked behind the building and then take off, headed south through the parking lot.

There were no reports of injuries.

Anyone with information is asked to call Portage police at 269.329.4567 or Silent Observer at 269.343.2100.
