PORTAGE, Mich. (WOOD) — Investigators are trying to determine what led to the death of a Portage man found outside a business.

Portage officers say around 7:15 a.m., someone discovered the unconscious man lying on the loading dock behind Pep Boys, located at 5630 South Westnedge Ave. The witness called police.

Medical first responders also answered the call and determined the man was dead.

On Thursday, the Portage Department of Public Safety identified the man as 51-year-old Ronald David James of Portage. Officers said he was homeless.

Police say there’s no indication of foul play in his death. An officer at the scene also told 24 Hour News 8 that suicide is not suspected.

An autopsy has been ordered to determine what exactly led to James’ death.
