KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — Police have identified the woman whose body was found in her bedroom in Kalamazoo Friday.

Nikkole Shurree Riojas, 35, was discovered dead in a home on Charles Avenue east of E. Main Street. The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety has not said how she died, though an autopsy was scheduled for Saturday.

After Riojas’ body was found, KDPS started looking for a person of interest. He led them on a chase before holing up in an abandoned home. He eventually gave himself up peacefully and was taken into custody.

Authorities haven’t released that man’s name, but a close friend of Riojas said he is her ex-boyfriend, with whom she had two children. The friend said the relationship, which lasted about five years, was abusive.

“She didn’t deserve this,” friend Mara Woodruff said of Riojas. “She was a good mom. She would stay home, work at home so she could take care of them.”

Court records show the ex-boyfriend, Anthony Ozomaro, was arraigned Monday on a charge of fleeing and eluding police. Bond was set at $30,000. If he posts bond, he’ll be required to wear an electronic tether.

There were four children, ages 2 through 8, in the Charles Avenue house when police got there Friday. All were safe, and they are now with family members.
