KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — The woman previously named a person of interest in a deadly fire in Kalamazoo is back in jail.

Kalamazoo County Jail records show Melissa Sue Morgan, 32, was arrested by Portage police and is being held on a charge of manufacturing or delivery of meth or ecstasy.

In February, she was deemed a person of interest in the house fire that killed 31-year-old Zachariah Hayes. She was arrested then on outstanding warrants; it’s not clear when she was released.

The fire happened in the early hours of Feb. 3 on Wallace Avenue north of E. Michigan Avenue. Responding firefighters knew someone may be inside, but couldn’t get in because of hoarding problems and a collapsed roof.

The fire was soon labeled suspicious.
