KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — Police in Wisconsin are looking for a woman last seen in West Michigan.
Police say Amanda Hanover, 39, was last seen Monday in Portage. Her empty car was later found parked near the Lake Michigan shoreline in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Officers say her cellphone was still inside the vehicle.
Authorities say they have conducted a drone search along the lake, but it didn’t turn up anything.
As of 12:30 p.m. Friday, Kenosha investigators said Hanover had not been located. The agency is working with other law enforcement and databases in hopes they will find her.
“We’re very worried about her and if anybody can help locate her, it would really be greatly appreciated by those of us who love and care about her,” Alison Porter told 24 Hour News 8 by phone Friday.
Porter has been friends with Hanover for years after they worked together on education reform in Arizona.
24 Hour News 8 found Hanover previously went missing from Arizona last year. Her family reported her missing in March and her car was found in Calgary, Alberta in May. Less than a month later, Hanover was found safe in Niskayuna, NY. News reports that followed the case noted Hanover suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder.
“Last time she was having, she had so much stress and she was having difficulty coping and that was very obvious to those of us who know her. This time there was no indication of problems with coping,” Porter explained. “I think that’s why we’re so much more concerned.”
Porter added the last time the two talked, Hanover discussed wanting to help improve Michigan’s education system, so she believes she had plans to stay in the area.
It’s not clear when Hanover first came to Michigan, but investigators confirmed she has family in the Kalamazoo County area.
Hanover is about 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighs around 115 pounds. She has long, brown hair with a red streak, blue eyes and a Chinese symbol tattoo on the back of her neck. She may be wearing glasses.
Anyone with information regarding her whereabouts is asked to call Kenosha police at 262.656.1234 or Crime Stoppers at 262.656.7333.
